Ladakh, “Land of High Passes” in The Himalayas, located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, of the Indian Subcontinent, lies with all the passes to and from Leh-Ladakh, very popularly known as “The Heaven for Bikers” all over the world. Riders from every part of the world come to experience this ‘Heaven on Earth’, challenging, as well as proving their skills of riding through the various deadly roads and passes. Also pleasing their eyes and treating their minds with the wonderful natural beauty of the mountains, kissing the sky. To enjoy this Heaven, people travel around various places near Leh. The most eye-catching places include Tso Pangong, Nubra Valley, Kargil War Memorial (Indo-Pak War Memorial), Diskit Monastery, Rezang La War Memorial (Indo-China War Memorial) and many more passes which include Rohtang La, Khardung La, Zoji La, Chang La, Baralacha La, Tanglang La, Lachulung La, Gata Loops and few more. Pangong Tso “Land of High Passes”, Ladakh, popularly called Leh-Ladakh, treats the tourists (mainly the riders) by offering the calming sight of nature and challenging passes around and between them. Heaven can be experienced by reaching the city of Leh, the largest town in Ladakh region, from the other main cities like Kargil, the second largest town in Ladakh. Leh has the only domestic airport in that region. People traveling through roads can come via Manali, Kargil (via Srinagar or Jammu). Khardung La Thousands of people travel to this haven every year to enjoy this blissful beauty of the chain of mountains, some even covered with snow. The main attraction is the road and the scenic beauty which is observed in all directions during the ascent as well as descent on these high passes. For adventure lovers, it is a gift for them, nature’s beauty, giving them a push to travel to different parts of Ladakh. It can simply be called ‘The Paradise’ to the lovers of nature as well. Many people take their last breath in “Land of High Passes” during this adventurous journey, fulfilling their dreams. Yet no such reason becomes the hindrance to people craving to experience the eyeful views making each and every single person spellbound. The Rezang La war memorial( Source : Divya Nair/Reddif ) Ladakh, being a part of the great Himalayas, located at the southern foothills, is itself a pride to our country, India. It is the highest motor-able road of the world, Khardung la, and two of the most dangerous road of the world, Rohtang La and Zoji La. It also has the famous battlefield on the hill, Kargil, Indo-Pak War-1999, and Rezang La (yet a mountain pass), Indo-China War-1962. The Tso Pangong also adds to the pride. It is the highest salt water lake in the world, sharing 60% of it with China. The colour of the lakes changes with time. It gives a diamond reflection of the sunlight at certain time of the day with change in the angle of incidence of the sunlight. Ladakh also has the highest cafeteria of the world, Rinchen cafeteria-at a height of 18380 ft, on the pass of Khardung La.
